Lake Lugano (called Lago di Lugano or Ceresio in Italian) has been a popular holiday destination among both Italy and Switzerland-goers for years. The lake has an Italian part and a Swiss part, but the differences are small. The largest, Swiss piece is located in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino in southern Switzerland, where the Swiss alpine atmosphere mixes with the typical Italian flair, picturesque alleys and Romanesque churches. The lake is surrounded by the beautiful Alpine landscape with many hiking trails that lead past the most beautiful places. Nearby are Lake Maggiore and Lake Como, among others.
